Komunikanty i hostie mszalne niskoglutenowe, wyprodukowane zostały po raz pierwszy w Polsce przez rodzinę Dąbrowskich na polecenie śp Arcybiskupa Zygmunta Zimowskiego w 2009 roku. Owe komunikanty i hostie zawierały najmniejszą ilość glutenu z pośród dostępnych komunikantów na świecie tj. poniżej 20 ppm. Wtenczas także w Nocie Episkopatu Polski z 21 maja 2009 roku (https://episkopat.pl/nota-ws-hostii-niskoglutenowych-dla-chorych-na-celiakie/) wskazane zostały zasady komunikowania komunii niskoglutenowej. Jak to podkreślił ks. Marek Stokłosa z UKSW takie hostie z niską zawartością glutenu – jak zaznaczono w komentarzu do nowej noty – udało się wypiec także w Polsce dzięki wysiłkom firmy Christiana-Dąbrowscy z Opoczna, która otrzymała zezwolenie biskupa radomskiego na ich rozpowszechnianie. Zakład ten posiada również certyfikat z Zakładu Mikrobiologii i Immunologii Klinicznej Instytutu „Pomnik- -Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka” w Warszawie co do zawartości glutenu w wypiekanych hostiach [1].
Zasady i wytyczne jakie powinny być przestrzegane przez producentów chleba eucharystycznego określone są przede wszystkim w kan. 924 par 2 Kodeksu Kanonicznego, według którego „Chleb winien być czysto pszenny i świeżo upieczony, aby nie było żadnego niebezpieczeństwa zepsucia.”
Dalsze wytyczne dla producentów komunikantów i hostii mszalnych znajdują się w uchwale 25/370/2015 Episkopatu Polski [2] w której to opisane zostały zasady produkcji i dystrybucji w Polsce chleba eucharystycznego. Wspomniano w niej także o wyjaśnieniach zawartych w instrukcji Redemptionis Sacramentum tj. „Chleb, którego używa się przy sprawowaniu Najświętszej Ofiary eucharystycznej, powinien być niekwaszony, czysto pszenny i świeżo upieczony, tak aby nie było żadnego niebezpieczeństwa zepsucia. Regulację co do wyglądu hostii można znaleźć w Ogólnym wprowadzeniu do Mszału rzymskiego, stanowiącym, iż „Natura znaku domaga się tego, by materia do sprawowania sakramentu miała wygląd pokarmu. Wynika stąd, że chleb eucharystyczny, jakkolwiek niekwaszony i w formie tradycyjnej, powinien być tak przyrządzony, aby kapłan w czasie Mszy z ludem mógł rzeczywiście przełamać Hostię na kilka części i rozdzielić przynajmniej niektórym wiernym. Nie wyklucza się jednak małych hostii, gdy wymaga tego większa liczba przyjmujących Komunię świętą lub inne racje duszpasterskie”
W trosce o zachowanie właściwości chleba eucharystycznego, w w/w uchwale Episkopatu Polski nałożono na księży proboszczów obowiązek, by zaopatrywać się jedynie w materię do sprawowania Eucharystii u licencjonowanych producentów, którzy złożyli przyrzeczenie wobec swojego Biskupa.
Ze względu na złożoność problematyki produkcji wysokojakościowych komunikantów i hostii jedynie z mąki pszennej i wody, a także ze względu na istotę materii, również serdeczne rekomendujemy zaopatrywanie się jedynie u licencjonowanych producentów.
